Awkward half-cat loafing on the stairs sparks Photoshop battle no one expected

Image: reddit, catcatdogcat

The Internet will never tire of the strange beauty of an awkwardly placed cat.

This poor feline who is stuck on the stairs, somewhere between a comfy cat-loaf position and actually being able to stand is a perfect example.

Poor cat.

We’re sure the cute kitty was able to find a way to another part of the house, but not before a picture was taken for the Internet’s amusement and so Redditors could photoshop it to their hearts’ content.

You made it weird, Internet.

Just a load of animals enjoying pancakes because humans are weird

Humans aren’t content with tossing pancakes and eating them in a civilised fashion on Pancake Day. They must also put pancakes on their pets.

On Pancake Day, people are sharing photos of pancake #FoodPorn, but they’re also sharing photos that are guaranteed to brighten your day. People are sharing adorable and slightly weird photos of animals wearing and eating pancakes.

Here’s a kitten eating miniature, kitten-sized pancakes.

Nora the rescue puppy loves napping with her baby brother

Image: mashable composite: elizabeth spence/instagram

Cats aren’t the only ones who enjoy a good nap.

In fact, mom Elizabeth Spence posts photos to Instagram of her English Pointer, Nora, who enjoys her daily nap in the cutest way possible cuddled beside Spence’s eight-month-old son, Archie.

Mashable spoke with Spence via email to learn more about the adorably special bond that her son and Nora share.

“We got Nora from Funds For Furry Friends, a local rescue shelter, seven years ago prior to having kids,” Spence said. “Despite having come from an abusive situation, her sweet and gentle nature shone through and we knew with certainty she would be a wonderful family dog when the time came.”

Image: Elizabeth Spence

While Nora gets along with Spence’s three kids, three rescue cats and her other two rescue dogs, it’s clear she and Archie are especially close.

“I noticed a strong bond growing between Nora and Archie when Archie was about four months old and so I began photographing their daily interactions, like squirrel watching, and the supervised communal naps they take together,” said Spence.

As for the photos, while she occasionally embellishes the shots by adding stuffed animals or other props, Spence explained, “Nora pretty much always finds her way right over to Archie on her own whenever he takes a nap on our bed.”

Spence is “thrilled to spread some love” by showing others these precious photos, and hopes they let people see, “what amazing petsrescue animals can beand encourage others to consider giving them a chance at love, too.”

There is nothing more relatable than this squirrel eating a hot Cheeto

Image: reddit,  Thereconraccoon

Squirrels: They’re just like us.

On a sunny afternoon, there’s one snack you can’t help but crave. This squirrel was dying for a mid-day snack, and of course he reached for the nearest hot Cheeto to quell his appetite.

The editing experts on the subreddit r/PhotoshopBattles agree that this squirrel is all of us and naturally they chose to honor him with his own battle.

What’s next for this squirrel after he finishes his spicy snack? Perhaps a few hours of playing Call of Duty or a Star Wars movie marathon. Maybe a nap.

This is the life we all want to lead.

Duke the dog to start third term as mayor of small Minnesota town

Hopefully he has a human chief of staff.

Duke the Great Pyrenees is the only dog that’s ever been elected mayor in America, and he proudly serves the people of Cormorant, a tiny Western Minnesota town with about 1,000 residents. He was just reelected for his third year-long term.

According to WDAY 6, Duke, 9, is nearing the end of his second term. At the 6th Annual Cormorant Daze festival this past weekend, Duke celebrated his inevitable reelection.

Locals say Duke has a high approval rating.

“I don’t know who would run against him,” Karen Nelson told WDAY 6. “He’s done such great things for the community.”

According to Duke’s owner David Rick, the pup was originally elected by accident via write-in votes. Only 12 votes were reportedly cast in that 2014 election.

We have no idea what Duke’s policy initiatives are, or if Cormorant has term limits, but we wish the Mayor and his town well.

As of Tuesday, Chanel and LeeRoy are now the proud parents of a new litter of puppies.

But just a few days before, the pair celebrated their last few days of freedom with a maternity photoshoot far superior to any human’s.

Finland’s presidential puppy is here to improve your day

The world has been suffering political dog content withdrawals. After all, everyone’s still grieving the sudden withdrawal of the Obama family’s dogs, Bo and Sunny, from the world stage.

Donald Trump, of course, has no pets.

It makes sense then that the desperate gaze of pup-lovers worldwide has fallen on Finland and President Sauli Niinist’s badass pup, Lennu.

Lennu, a five-year-old Boston terrier, according to the Finnish outlet Yle Uutiset, has been making public appearances for some time now. He’s not fully media trained, and has a habit of distracting the cameras away from his owner and onto his own antics. And now, people outside Finland have caught on.

Lennu made a splash on Twitter, and the internet began hunting for as many photos of the presidential pupper as could be found.

Lennu has even been memed, as one would expect given the dog’s endlessly jubilant expression.

Finland’s president himself seems pretty cool he survived the deadly tsunami in Thailand in 2004 but he doesn’t have quite the same goofy charisma as Lennu. Sorry Sauli!

Japanese artist has hand-embroidered hundreds of cats on shirts

Have you ever wanted to carry your cat in your pocket all day in a not-weird way?

Japanese artist Hiroko Kubota‘s archives of custom-made shirts feature hundreds of different cats emerging from pockets via meticulous embroidery.

According to Spoon & Tamago, Kutoba started making the shirts because her son was slim and had trouble fitting into store-bought clothes. She started adding cats to the shirts after her son, a big fan of internet cats, requested it.

When a photo of one of her creations started going viral online, she opened an Etsy shop where she would custom-make orders. On Etsy, the garments reportedly went for up to $300.

Although Kubota no longer makes the customized garments, her book, which features photos of many of her creations, is available on Amazon.

More of Kubota’s artwork is available for view on Flickr, including shirts featuring dogs, Pokmon and more.

7 pets we think the Trump family should adopt

As deliberations over presidential cabinet positions rage on, let’s not forget the very important appointment of a “First Dog.” Nearly every U.S. president has had a pet, and although Donald Trump currently doesn’t have one, he reportedly has a deal in the works.

As reported by the The Washington Post, philanthropist Lois Pope, a longtime friend of Trump, has a Goldendoodle puppy she is convinced Trump will take to the White House. Trump reportedly told Pope, “Barron will want him” over the Thanksgiving holiday, but the decision is not yet final, according to a Trump spokesperson.

In case the Goldendoodle doesn’t get hired, we came up with a few suggestions for the First Pet in Trump’s America. All are adoptable animals from Petfinder and would settle into the Oval Office nicely.

1. Mamba the python

Image: Petfinder

After a long day of yelling nonsense at foreign leaders, Trump will probably want to curl up with a smooth, comforting critter. Well Donald, look no further than Mamba the python, who lives on a diet of frozen/thawed rodents. And in case Trump doesn’t want to call him Mamba, we think Steve Bannon Jr. would make a great name.

2. Tip Top Emperor the horse

Image: Petfinder

Even though Trump will have the privilege of riding around in Cadillac One and Air Force One during his presidency, there will be times when he wants a simpler mode of transportation and Tip Top Emperor could be the perfect horse for the job. Not only does his name imply that he’s a leader, but according to his Petfinder profile, he “enjoys attention.” If that’s not something Trump can relate to, then we don’t know what is.

3. Harley the goat

Image: Petfinder

Because some Americans have been equating Trump with the devil, he might get along well with a horned animal. Harley the goat’s Petfinder profile says, “One of his favorite things to do is to people-watch from his grassy pasture.” Since Trump has a history of objectifying women, we figure he and Harley could people-watch together!

4. Blue the cow

Image: Petfinder

According to his Petfinder page, “Blues gentle manners often make him a favorite with visitors and staff alike.” Trump has a pretty harsh demeanor, so maybe this kind, well-mannered cow could balance him out. However, Trump would never let his pet have the name Blue the color of the Democratic party. Lil’ Sean Hannity has a nice ring to it, though.

5. Splash the pig

Image: Petfinder

After a 3 a.m. Twitter rant, Trump will need someone to cuddle with when he returns to bed. Since Melania won’t be moving to the White House right away, Splash the pig might be the perfect candidate! Splash is a 700-pound pig who loves a belly rub and playing in the mud.

6. Phoenix the albino ferret

Image: Petfinder

Trump has zero background in politics so he may need some help brushing up on his U.S. state capitals. Phoenix the albino ferret is sure to help him remember the capital of Arizona (Arizona is a state on the West Coast, Donald). Plus, her white fur will likely please the president-elect’s chief strategist, alt-right icon Steve Bannon.

7. Bob the lizard

Image: Petfinder

“This is Bob. Bob is old and crotchety. Bob hates you,” reads this sweet lizard’s bio on Petfinder. Bob would be the perfect reptile for Trump to hang with on a Saturday night. That way, when Saturday Night Live comes on and Trump is contemplating tweeting something mean, Bob will encourage him to go through with it.

No matter which pet Trump goes with, let’s just hope that he has a well-equipped animal caregiver on his staff.

Cat posts the illest selfie of the year with his dog bros

I mean, look at this cat and his boys. Manny and his bros are going cruising tonight and they dropped a dope selfie on social to let everyone know where the party’s at (wherever they are).

17 cats that are definitely going to kill you

You may think they’re cute and cuddly, but deep down, cats are purely evil geniuses.

While a recent study states that cuddling cats could increase the risk of cat-scratch disease, landing you in the hospital or even resulting in death, cats have actually been plotting your death for a very long time.

Lovable prankster helps cats get adopted by making them relatable name tags

Unless you happen to be a cute and fluffy puppy or kitten, it can be difficult to get adopted from a shelter.

That’s why online personality Obvious Plant decided to use his carefully-honed planting skills to create some eye-catching name tags for the shelter cats at Sante D’Or animal shelter in Los Angeles.

On each name tag, there’s a flattering picture of the cat, the cat’s name and then a section detailing the very specific likes and dislikes of that cat.

Obvious Plant does exactly what his name suggests – he plants hilarious objects in random places and documents his hijinks on his Tumblr and Instagram. Past plants include leaving parody CDs at a local music store and fake pamphlets at a national park.

This animal shelter prank is definitely his most touching plant to date, and also very amusing. As for the cats, they are ridiculously relatable.

Image: obvious plant/facebook

Image: obvious plant/facebook

As you can expect, the animal shelter discovered these name tags and were actually not mad about them.

“Thanks for the shout out. Please stop by and see the cats in person. We’d love to chat,” the animal shelter commented on the Facebook post.

Then, the shelter pointed out an error in one of Obvious Plant’s name tags. “However, Obi is a huge fan of improv comedy…”

Hey, we all make mistakes. We also all want to adopt these cats now. To get more *real* information on these cats and adopting, visit Sante D’or’s website.

These baby polar bears are the cutest twins of 2017 (sorry Beyonc)

Look at these babies. Just look at them.

These precious angel bears belong to the Columbus Zoo, who shared the twins’ first photoshoot today on Facebook.

No offense to Beyonc, Amal Clooney or any other celebrities expecting twins, but these polar bear babes are the cutest twins of 2017. The competition has already been won.

I mean…

These cubs belong to female polar bear Aurora and are currently 3 months old. The Columbus Zoo stated on Facebook that the sex of the babies is still unknown, but will be confirmed in a few weeks.

The zoo has also shared that the twins are slowly learning about the world, having been introduced to sand, sod and a few inches of water.

“They are now eating chow and will sneak a little bit of meat from mom when they get the opportunity!” the zoo wrote alongside this heartwarming video.

It’s hard to believe anything can be that effortlessly adorable, and yet we are looking at proof right here.

As if two baby polar bears were not enough, the Columbus Zoo also has another baby polar bear in residence. This one is the baby of another polar bear, Anana, and is also very, very good at looking cute.

All babies and moms are doing very well, and should be on view come spring.

Meanwhile, we need to go lie down. So much cuteness in such a short span of time has overwhelmed us.

Neglected cat loses 2 pounds of matted fur after getting a haircut

A cat with an absurd amount of matted hair is getting a second chance after a long overdue haircut.

The Western PA Humane Society shared heartbreaking photos of the cat, named Hidey, after she arrived at the facility last week.

“The amazing ARL clinic staff stepped up and shaved the pounds of mats off of the cats body,” they wrote on Facebook. “She is feeling so much better now!”

According to The Dodo, Hidey was owned by an elderly man with Alzheimer’s disease who was unable to properly care for her. His family had recently moved him out of his house and into a nursing home when a relative named Paul Russel remembered that the man had a cat.

“When they put him in the nursing home, I thought, ‘Hey, he has a cat,'” Russel told The Dodo. “The house was still open, so I went down and left some food for the cat until we figured out what we’re going to do. Then somebody mentioned that he had a second cat. So I started searching around, and suddenly this huge creature darts out from under the bed and runs down to the cellar, and I thought, ‘What was that?'”

After finding Hidey hiding in the basement, Russel took her to the Animal Rescue League and Wildlife Shelter, an affiliation of the Western PA Humane Society. Vets were able to safely remove the matted hair from her body after putting Hidey under with general anesthesia.

Although it’s not uncommon for cats to get matted fur, Hidey’s case was extreme.

“Hidey was really overweight, so that makes it harder for [cats] to groom themselves, and that’s when you see matting happen,” Western PA Humane Society Senior Marketing Communications Manager Caitlin Lasky said.

Hidey is currently staying with Russel and is reportedly already feeling more like herself.

Pablo the puppy pees on bathroom floor, cleans it up himself

Good boy, Pablo!

Most dogs accidentally go #1 (or even worse, #2) from time to time in the house but Pablo just might be the first dog to clean his mess up himself.

When the 3-month-old pitbull wasn’t able to make it outside to use nature’s bathroom, he was forced to use his human’s bathroom (well, the floor of his human’s bathroom). His human, Billie Band$, then tweeted a photo of the toilet paper wad Pablo the puppy lovingly created to soak up his pee.

Of course, the dog could also have just messed around with the roll of toilet paper after his bathroom break, but it’s more fun to think of him as being a clean canine.

“My dog Pablo pissed on the floor and tried to clean it up,” his human wrote on Twitter. “Really can’t even whoop his ass for this one.”

We hope when his human mentions whooping Pablo’s ass, he means figuratively. Who could ever hurt such a cutie pie?

This was Pablo’s first foray into toilet paper although not his first cleaning attempt.

“He has put tissue all over my room before but this was the first in the restroom,” Band$ wrote to Mashable.

Here are some photos depicting the Life of Pablo.

Pablo now has his own Twitter account. The account claims it was created by Pablo’s human, but we think that if Pablo is capable of so artfully using toilet paper, he is capable of putting out a few tweets by himself.

Cat rescued after being found frozen to the ground finds happy ending

In the video, the man filming explains that the cat became stuck after it sought refuge under a warm vehicle. Temperatures then dropped to negative 35 degrees celsius and the cat became frozen to the ground.

The couple filled a bucket with hot water and gently poured it over the cat’s paws to unfreeze it from the ice.

“It’s most important that the cat’s alive and we’ll be able to help her,” the man can be heard saying in the clip.

In the YouTube description, they explain that the cat was taken to a veterinarian where it was determined to be about seven to nine months old. They stated that the cat was able to walk later that evening, and was adopted the same week.

Couple recreates famous movie scenes with their cats

The only thing that could make your favorite movies better? If cats were playing the lead roles.

New Instagram account moviecats is posting photo recreations of famous movie scenes just about every week, and they’re all starring two adorable Burmese cats named Tara and Willow.

A photo posted by Movie Cats (@moviecats) on

The cats’ humans, David and Sarah Chapman, are from Nottingham, England. The couple was inspired to start the project for a pub quiz that David manages, reports BuzzFeed.

“We look at famous movie scenes and think, ‘How could we do this with our cats?'” Chapman told BuzzFeed. “If its possible and seems silly enough, then we have a go.”

Even though the Chapmans have only created a handful of movie posters so far, they already have about 40,000 Instagram followers. They do not caption the posts with the movie they are creating, leaving users to figure it out for themselves just like a realpub quiz.

The crew also has a behind-the-scenes Instagram account, called casualmoviecats, which gives fans a glimpse into how the photos are made.

Photos capture quirky dogs up for adoption

Giuseppe
Image: Richard Phibbs

The sweet and sometimes sad faces of dogs waiting to be adopted is just one of those things that tug at your heart strings. And these pup photos are no exception.

Over the last few years, fashion and portrait photographer Richard Phibbs has been photographing furry subjects at the Humane Society of New York as part of the shelters work to find the dogs forever homes.

The portraits of the adorable pups are featured in the new book Rescue Me. The photos are accompanied with each dogs story of abandonment through rescue told by writer and activist Richard Jonas. Royalties from the sale of Rescue Me benefit the Humane Society of New York.

My portraits of homeless animals are not meant to make people feel sad. The goal is to find every animal a home,” said Phibbs.

After looking at these quirky faces, see if you can resist running to your nearest humane society.

Maternity photoshoots are significantly cuter when they star pregnant dogs

As of Tuesday, Chanel and LeeRoy are now the proud parents of a new litter of puppies.

But just a few days before, the pair celebrated their last few days of freedom with a maternity photoshoot far superior to any human’s.

Image: amy rients

LeeRoy’s owner Amy Rients tells Mashable that the happy couple found one another through a mutual friend.

“Our dogs kind of got match made by our dog groomer,” she says. “She’s actually my very best friend, and she knew we were kind of, not looking actively, but we had not neutered our dog just in case we wanted to breed him. When she ran across Chanel, she gave [Sorensen] our phone number.”

A few days before the due date, Rients brought LeeRoy to Chanel’s owner Kennedy Sorensen’s farm to stage the shoot. When Sorensen shared the finished product on Twitter, their story blew up. The tweet itself garnered more than 37,000 likes and 22,000 retweets.

Sorensen tells Mashable that the puppies are in good health, adding, “Chanel is an amazing mother!”

Finally, a jack-o’-lantern that celebrates cat butts

Not all pumpkins are symmetrically round or unblemished.

So, sometimes when carving, you’ll cut out the spots that make the pumpkin unique.

However, this ingenious designer (and presumable cat butt fan) used the pumpkin’s originality as an advantage.

Behold: the glorious cat butt jack-o’-lantern.

Image: reddit/bisoninthefreezer

Posted by bisoninthefreezer on Reddit, this is a Halloween wonder dreamed up by their unnamed friend, though the artist certainly has a future carving what would be a great series of cat butt pumpkins.

We’re thankful this has been brought to our attention so early in the month. Now, we have plenty of time to attempt to recreate this before Oct. 31.

Keep your dog tidy and stylish with a dog unitard, but be careful

Fall, aka turtleneck season, is finally here in terms of brisk temperatures. So why shouldn’t Fido join in on the fun?

Thanks to Shed Defender, your pup can. The company specializes in dog unitards. Yes, dog unitards.

In addition to its new line being stylish, the company claims the unitards have a lot of practical benefits for your pet.

The dog unitards cover the pooch’s neck, body and all four legs. They have a hole for the tail and come in a variety of colors and sizes.

As implied by its name, the Shed Defender’s primary function is keeping your dog from leaving a trail of fur everywhere.

Some of its other uses include locking in allergens and dander, reducing your dog’s anxiety and barking frequency, keeping it clean while playing outside and providing protection from insects and ticks.

The accessory will also help your dog stand out at his next musical theatre audition.

“The idea came to me about six years ago,” Tyson Walters, inventor of the Shed Defender, wrote in an email to Mashable. “I had this huge St. Bernard. Harley, and I just couldn’t control her shedding. No matter how much I brushed and groomed her, she still left tumbleweeds of hair in my house and even worse, in my car,”

“I looked around on the internet and dog stores and I couldn’t find a solution to my problem. So, I decided to make one.”

There has been a bit of backlash regarding the product and dog overheating, but Walters stands by it.

“It is made out of a lightweight, breathable, stretchy fabric (athletic mesh) that DOES NOT make the dog hot and allows full mobility as well,” he told Mashable.

“The main critics are pet groomers who comment on Facebook, and have NEVER used the product. They think it doesn’t allow the dog to shed, like it has some magical power, and that would be a huge problem for dogs,” Walters said.

“That’s not the case. It just contains the hair, very simple. They also think it will matte the hair and cause skin problems since the dog can’t shed naturally. Once again, the dog still sheds, the hair won’t get matted. We encourage customers who have long haired dogs to not use [the product] for prolonged amounts of time, i.e. days at a time, and then properly brush your dog afterwards.”

Mashable spoke with Dr. Lawrence Putter, a veterinarian at Lenox Hill Veterinarians in Manhattan.

Dr. Putter didn’t feel comfortable evaluating the Shed Defender without checking out the physical product. He did say that he sees how it could have benefits in certain circumstances, such as travel. However, he doesn’t think a dog should wear the garment for a long time, as he’s fearful that it could make a dog overheat.

Walters, however, continued his defense

“People also think it will overheat the dog and kill it. Lol. The material is just like Under Armour, and athletes don’t overheat and die in their clothes,” Walters told Mashable.

“And dogs release heat differently than humans do, they pant to release heat, as humans release heat through their body. With the breathable fabric it doesn’t contain heat, allowing airflow.”

The Shed Defender comes in white, black, royal blue, columbia blue, red, forest green and hot pink, in sizes ranging from mini to XXL, priced from $44.99 – $59.99. Walters plans to give a portion of all sales to a local animal shelter.

Walters noted repeatedly that the Shed Defender is only to be worn for a few hours at a time.

Cat-astrophe avoided as charity rescues newborn ‘tumble dryer’ kittens

LONDON Cats are notorious for their peculiar post-partum practices.

For example, a mother cat will routinely relocate her litter, often moving the newborn kittens from one dark and quiet location to the next.

An East London dry-cleaners witnessed this unusual feline fact first-hand when, to its employees’ surprise, the desperate meows of four newborn kittens were heard coming from an unexpected albeit dark and quiet place.

The Forest Gate shop called in the Celia Hammond Animal Trust to retrieve the itty-bitty kitties from behind one of its tumble dryers, where the kittens were apparently born.

Th head of the cat charity, Celia Hammond, is quoted in a BBC article as saying the kittens “needed some intensive care,” but were now recovering in a foster home after being reunited with their mother.

We don’t know about you, but we’re paw-sitively delighted by this tail’s purr-fect ending.

(Too much? Sorry too many cat-tastic puns out there.)

Hiddle, as we now must refer to Tom Hiddleston in a post-Hiddleswift world, is somehow moving on with his life.

Hiddleston made good use of his special talent for being outshined by posing for the new Gucci tailoring campaign with some fantastic Afghan hounds.

The suits are quite dapper, but they have nothing on a good I Heart T.S. tank top as statement pieces.

Hiddleston is pensive in the shots, communicating to his canine cohorts that he’s suave enough to play James Bond with a prolonged gaze.

The photos were shot by Glen Luchford and not an esteemed member of the paparazzi that Hiddleswift tipped off, which is why they look more elegant than staged “candids.”

17 cats that are definitely going to kill you

You may think they’re cute and cuddly, but deep down, cats are purely evil geniuses.

They may be adorable, but don’t trust these little terrors. They’re secretly plotting your death.

Shirtless servicemen posing with rescue dogs is your dream 2017 calendar

The 2017 edition of Heartthrobs and Hound Dogs has all the elements of a perfect calendar: Dogs in need of forever homes posing with servicemen who just happen to be completely ripped. It’s the female gaze put to a good cause.

Shirtless dudes + rescue dogs is a proven formula for Ricki Beason, the Texas photographer behind Heartthrobs and Hound Dogs. She told Mashable via phone that the calendar’s 2016 edition featuring military veterans raised about $30,000 for rescue shelters.

“When you pair a rescue dog with a really handsome shirtless guy, people tend to take notice,” she joked.

This year’s calendar features firefighters, police officers and military vets, plus six rescue dogs. Each pup comes from one of the six shelters Beason selected to benefit from the 2017 edition.

Beason is a physical therapist by trade, but took up photography in 2014. At the time, her own adopted dog inspired her to pick up a camera and find a way to benefit the rescue community. Her initiative to photograph rural rescue dogs in need of exposure later inspired her first calendar, a 2015 edition featuring firefighters.

Two years later, the latest edition is available for order with all proceeds set to benefit shelters in Houston, Austin and Dallas.

“Having two rescue dogs myself, I know how much love they can offer you,” Beason said. “I just want people to see them for just how great they are. They deserve a chance in a loving home, they deserve to find love, they deserve to be someone’s most loved pet.”

Guy immediately shut down against Twitter account that rates adorable dogs

Image: Ilka & Franz, getty images

All dogs are good dogs, and that’s what the Twitter account WeRateDogs is all about.

Unfortunately, some Twitter trolls like one named Brant (Brint? Brent? Bront?) couldn’t seem to understand. Brant tweeted at WeRateDogs to air some grievances against the account’s seemingly lenient standards.

Brant particularly took issue with the account rating every dog as a 10, or even a 11 or 12 out of 10. Quite the paradox.

WeRateDogs fired back with some infallible logic:

But Brant was not satisfied.

Brant challenged the dog-rating account to show some 3s or even 5 or 6-rated dogs on the account.

Of course, he was quickly refuted. Because at WeRateDogs, a 3 or 5 does not exist. Every dog is a superior dog.

Looks like Brant will have to find his own dog-rating system. We think he’ll be hard-pressed to find a better one.

Never be the guy who argues against cute dogs.

Say goodbye to summer by trying to find the hot dogs among pictures of legs

Image: Ambar Del Moral/Mashable

Take a minute to remember summer. More importantly, remember the Instagrams of summer.

As the chilly winds of fall start to blow over our pumpkin spice lattes, think about all the backyard barbecues, frosty afternoon ice creams and pictures of our legs staring out over the calm sea that we took over the last three months.

But wait, are those legs or are those hot dogs?

Image: AMBAR DEL MORAL/MASHABLE

Take a closer look, and you might find that there are some hilarious trolls out there trying to trick you with pictures of sausages.

Don’t be fooled.

Farewell, summer.

Before being put to sleep, this cat held hands with his owners on the way to the vet

Stock up on your boxes of tissues, cat lovers.

Andrew Bernhard had to say goodbye to his beloved cat, Little Andrew, who was a part of his family for 15 and a half years.

In Bernhard’s post on Reddit, he wrote that Little Andrew rested his little paw on his owners’ hands on the long, last drive to the vet where Little Andrew would eventually be put to sleep.

We’re choking back tears just looking at this picture. Little Andrew had been diagnosed with an illness and was struggling from day-to-day.

“He was by my side for a long time and just had been running out of gas. He wasnt eating or drinking, stopped purring, and just wasnt himself. It wouldve been selfish to keep him just because I didnt want to lose him,” Bernhard told Buzzfeed.

Many other Redditors sent their condolences to Bernhard.

Apparently, Little Andrew was an affectionate cat who was always purring and sitting in people’s laps, so putting his paws out wasn’t too big of a surprise. Still, the significance of the moment wasn’t lost on Bernhard.

Bernhard raised Little Andrew since the cat was just a little kitten, so the two had been through a lot together.

What is this wetness coming from our eyeballs?

Samson may be the biggest cat in the Big Apple

Holy cat!

At 4 feet long and 28 pounds strong, Samson, a Maine Coon cat, just might be the largest cat in New York City.

Image: Jonathan Zurbel/SPLURT TECH

His owner, Jonathan Zurbel (a.k.a. Splurt), 42, is a social media strategist, music producer and DJ. He runs a popular Instagram account for Samson that has over 77,000 followers.

Samson and Zurbel came into each other’s lives accidentally. “He fell from heaven into my arms. Not really, but my brother got him for his ex-girlfriend and when they broke up I took care of him for a few weeks and we became inseparable,” he told Mashable in an email.

A photo posted by SAMSON AKA CATSTRADAMUS (@catstradamus) on

He is by far the biggest cat Ive heard of, especially in New York City, Dr. Lisa Lippman, a Manhattan veterinarian, told the New York Post. Most cats she sees weigh closer to 10 pounds.

Despite being so much larger than the average cat, Samson is in fine physical health.

“I must stress he is VERY healthy and his size is just because he is a perfect specimen and his parents were champion show cats,” Zurbel said. “So his weight is not because he eats too much, HE IS NOT FAT!”

Image: JONATHAN ZURBEL/SPLURT TECH

According to Zurbel, Maine Coons typically weigh 15 to 18 pounds, with the maximum weight being 25 pounds.

Zurbel knew Samson would be large, but not to this extent. “We had an idea he was gonna be big, I kinda thought he would stop growing at 19 pounds,” he wrote to Mashable.

“[He was] also taking up half my queen size bed, so when I went for his last check up, we couldn’t believe his weight, and according to the vets he’s the heaviest cat on record in the local area.”

Image: JONATHAN ZURBEL/SPLURT TECH

Zurbel has been pleased by the reaction to Samson on social media. “[Followers] cannot believe it, but they also adore him,” he wrote. “And thats what I want, I want people to see a beautiful animal who is kind, tender, funny, sweet and a great companion and not just focus on his size.”

“So I’m happy so many people adore him. He is so beautiful and majestic.”

Zurbel told Mashable that somewhere down the line, he would like to use Samson to raise awareness around cat issues such as adoption and shelters.

In addition to being joyfully large, Samson apparently inspires a treasure trove of trivia. We’ll leave you with some of Zurbel’s favorite factoids about his sweet pet:

He loves to watch running water.

He hates drones.

He gives GREAT massages.

He plays fetch.

He loves one movie and watches it for sometimes an hour nonstop: Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2.
