Talk about a win for animals everywhere.
In the Netherlands it is now illegal for wild animals such as tigers, lions, and giraffes, to be used as circus animals. Finally the abuse towards animals by putting them in circus environments has been outlawed in a country which previously allowed it.
It all happened on September 15 when the ban on wild animals took effect, barring them from being used in a circus.
This includes lions, bears, elephants, giraffes and other animals which were hugely popular for use, and abuse, in circus environments.
Previously such animals would be caged up and subjected to grueling, nonstop travelling. Then they would be let out only to be subjected to training drills until they eventually would be paraded on a stage for a few hours of human entertainment, before going back into their confined and cramped quarters.
It has been nine years of work put forth by Wilde Dieren de Tent Uit, the association of Dutch animal welfare organizations. As part of the ban the association is eagerly going to assist in the proper placement for these animals, giving them new homes and fresh starts at living the animal life they deserve, eliminating the unnatural caged up nature they have been sadly subjected to for far too long.
